Using Contour Mask

Contour mask can be used for contour clipping in conjunction with automatic brushing and can be used for applying various effects using the same contour as a shape.

In short terms, contour is a shape that divides one object represented on image from another. Contour can be created with various edge detecting algorhytms. At this time, Pixopedia 24 offers seven various contour styles.

Wen we use some contour as a clipping contour, every line drawn by hand or autobrush is clipped to existing contour if it passes over, which means that the length of line drawn is shortened so it just touches the contour and it's not passing over it.

When applying autobursh technique, the structure of image, i.e. their large objects are preserved, which can be seen from the example below. One picture is autobrushed with no contour clipping, while the other is done with use of contour clipping.

The other purpose of contour mask is to treat contour as a shape for various effects. The simplest effects is darkening or lightening object edges as well as smoothing or sharpening . Almost any action can be applied on contour mask using it as a shape.

Contour Setup

as seen from the picture of setup panel, user may select from seven available contour styles. Explaining those various styles is not topic of this manual, user may explore which contour style suits the best to his or her purposes.

Checkbox below, simply tells program to take care of contour clipping or not. If you check the box, contour clipping is applied, otherwise not, but contour is still available in memory. You don't need to create new contour to proceed with contour clipping, unless you want to create a new contour after some effects applied.

Grayscale slider has the same purpose as in
image control. It actually increases or decreases the intensity of contour mask that should be created.

Tolerance slider is used to set amount of tolerance for contour clipping. This amount gives us a tolerance from high intensity pixel value inside the contour mask. Higher the value, higher is a possibility of clipping occurrence.

To destroy existing mask, simply press clear button. To create mask, press create button. To exit contour setup, press OK button.

NOTE: Some actions like revert and load destroy existing contour, so you'll have to recreate contour after these actions.
